Dear Friends -- We hope that our short update finds you well during this difficult time Kenya is experiencing. To manage life in times of crisis is truly challenging and is a set-back for many. To keep up with our Community Work has been a difficult task and dangerous at times. However, despite the turmoil and upheaval of these last months, with the help of your support our team was able to keep serving the poor. With poverty on the rise it’s even more common that families in poor settlements face severe food shortage. Therefore our emphasis is still the Family Care Package Project which provides a variety of basic food staples for a group of elderly, the widowed and those who battle with terminal illness. Additionally, we also reached out to a community at the edge of Kibera where a serious fire left 300 families homeless.

Michael, who helps organise the relief efforts for the fire victims, is holding the faulty cable which started the fire. During this months’ special Family Care Program many of the families who lost their livelihood received blankets and food supplies.

THE FIVE-MINUTE FAVOUR

At times it might appear overwhelming to take part in making the world a better place? The following is something I read, which struck a chord and drew attention to the importance of little things. The article wrote, “The five-minute favour concept is no more complicated than its name alludes: take five minutes out of your day to do something that’ll benefit another person…  It doesn’t cost much, but it can make a big difference in somebody’s life.” It’s all too common, in our daily race to achieve, that an inkling to reach out to someone remains just a thought. I found this idea of a five-minute favour a good reminder to help turn a notion into a deed of kindness.
