CARE PACKAGES -- FOOD SECURITY IN HARDSHIP TIMES

In the heart of Kenya's vibrant but struggling urban slums -- where apparently 60% of Nairobi resides -- families wake each day with resilience, though food insecurity casts a shadow over their lives. In these bustling communities, where      children’s laughter intertwines with daily challenges, many face the harsh reality of limited meals, often going without the nutrients needed to grow, learn and dream.

Throughout 2024, our Family Care Package Program continued to provide regular basic food security for hundreds of people in poverty stricken communities -- the elder, families who struggle with unemployment and terminally ill cancer sufferers.

There are approximately 2.5 million (with numbers rising) slum dwellers in about 200 settlements in Nairobi, occupying just 6% of the land. Kibera houses about 250,000 of these people. Kibera is the biggest slum in Africa and one of the biggest in the world.

Kenya is currently facing rising poverty levels, influenced by various factors --economic inequality, political instability, youth unemployment, food insecurity and recurring droughts, etc.
